Final Note about Sectionals

All,

With Sectionals almost here I have a final note to teams:

Check your rosters!

Players who are listed as “Incomplete” will have a message in parenthesis by their name on the roster report. That message will either say:
“Dues”, “Waiver”, or “Player on more than one team”

If it says “Dues” – They owe for 2008.
Dues rates are
- $40 Regular Renewal, expires 12/31/08
- $30 College Renewal, expires 12/31/08
- $20 Youth (under 19) Renewal, expires 12/31/08
Intro Rates (1st-time UPA members ONLY) *Introductory rates are available August 1 - November 30
- $22 Regular Intro, expires 12/31/08
- $17 College Eligible Intro, expires 12/31/08
- $11 Youth (under 19) Intro, expires 12/31/08
Players CANNOT pay one time fees for Series events.
Players who have NEVER joined the UPA before can pay the Introductory rate.

If it says “Waiver” - Collect a waiver.

If it says “Player on more than one team” – They need to remove themselves from the one of the two teams. If they are on more than one roster for the Series, they and their team may be disqualified from the Series. Contact HQ if you have questions.

WAIVER NOTE: Even if players claim that they signed a waiver already, but we indicate that we don't have one, then they need to sign another one.

DUES NOTE 1: Sometimes if someone pays ONLINE a day or so before sectionals, it won't get updated before you run the roster report. These players should bring a printout of either their receipt of payment online or a printout of their online UPA membership status that says that they paid.

Please call with questions. 585-261-5705.

See everyone tomorrow.

Thanks,
Steve

Sectionals Schedule

We will have a two day, 9 team event. Currently we have 2 bids to regionals. I do not expect this to change. Thus we will be running the 9-team two advance format from the UPA tournament format handbook. This format is round robin on Saturday (one 4 team pool and one 5 team pool) with an 8 team clipped double elimination bracket on Sunday.

The captains meeting will be held at 8:30AM Saturday at Ellison park South fields. Please see the field map on the blog site. Following the captains meeting is registration. ALL tourney fees, dues, and waivers must be submitted BEFORE the start of the first round which takes place at 9:30AM.
The first round will start at 9:30 on Saturday.
Because sectionals has been increased to a two day event the tourney fee will be $150 USD.

If you have questions call: 585-261-5705
Thanks,
Steve

Sectionals Information

Please make sure that any additional players you intend to add to your roster have been added by September 16th. After adding your additional players please resubmit your roster.

Please send the $100.00 Sectional tournament fee to me by the final roster deadline (September 16th.) Please make the check (in US dollars) payable to Steven Goerlich and send it to:

Steven Goerlich
187 Irvington Road
Rochester, NY 14620.

I will send out more information on the format when it is finalized. This will occur on September 17th after the final roster deadline.

Current UPA communtication is as follows:
"Just because the teams prefer a one-day it isn't a good enough reason
for the UPA. While teams may prefer it at the outset, once it's played
out I could imagine the three and four seeds would not be very happy and
quickly find something to complain about. Especially if there was an
upset, then someone will feel they got screwed.
So on paper the UPA doesn't condone that format for your sectionals".

If you know that your team will not be attending sectionals even though you have completed the initial rostering requirements. Please let me know as soon as possible if you will not be attending rather that waiting until the final roster deadline.

Registration Process

Registration is underway with ONE WEEK until the roster deadline of August 29th.

Join the following teams currently registering for the fall series:
CARLETON
FIREBIRD
GOAT
MEDICARE
PHOENIX
ZEBRA MUSCLES
TOO BAD
RTH
TORONTULA

(This list will be updated as additional teams register.)

Take note the sheer number of teams playing in sectionals determines the number of bids that we will get to fill the 16 team regional tournament. Three bids is not out of the question. Who will fill those slots? Come to sectionals and find out.

College Teams:
College roster exception: teams can make use of this but they have to do it right:
send in proof of academic term dates by fax or form, submitting a partial roster of as few as one name, and then following the remaining guidelines.

Sectional Deadline Approaches

In less than two weeks the rostering deadline for sectionals will be past.
Below are some additional pieces of information for rostering:

he Team Registration Deadline is the date by which you must register your team for the Series by entering a roster of at least 7 players into the online rostering system. August 29th 2008.

MINORS: If someone on your team is under 18, their parent or guardian must also sign the waiver! Minors also need the chaperone and medical authorization forms filled out.

UPA Chaperone Forms

A copy of the chaperone form should be mailed to HQ. A copy should be kept on hand at the event. The medical release form is the responsibility of the chaperone; it must be brought to each Series event and kept on hand by the chaperone. This form will allow medical personnel to treat an injured minor without a parent/guardian having to be present. (Without this form a doctor might not treat an injured minor.)
